Cookies and analytics

Banking Explained is an editorial site. We do not run adverts, we do not sell data, and we do not track you across other websites. The only measurement we would like to use is Google Analytics 4, so we can see how many people visit and which articles are actually useful.

What we ask permission for

Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser to tell one visit from another. Under UK rules we need your consent before it does that, so it stays switched off until you accept in the banner. If you decline, Google Analytics records nothing that identifies you and sets no analytics cookies.

Your choice

What we measure when it is on

  • Which pages are opened, and in what order.
  • Roughly where in the world the visit came from.
  • Device type and browser.
  • Which site or search engine referred you.

We never send Google Analytics anything you type, and we do not ask you for personal details anywhere on this site.

Cookies we set ourselves

  • Your cookie choice. Stored in your browser’s local storage, not a cookie, purely so we stop asking.
  • Admin session. A single cookie set only if you log in to the private editorial dashboard. Visitors never receive it.

Server-side crawler logging

We separately log visits from search-engine and AI crawlers — the robots that read the site, not people. That happens on our own server from the request’s user-agent, involves no cookies, and is how we study which AI systems read UK banking content.

Changing your mind

Use the buttons above at any time. Clearing your browser data resets the choice and you will see the banner again.
